BrushUpQuiz Support

Welcome to BrushUpQuiz support. Below are answers to common questions. If you don’t find what you’re looking for, email brushupquiz@gmail.com.

Getting started

How do I sign in?

Open the app, pick a nickname, choose whether you’re a Student or an Instructor, and tap Continue. That’s it — no email or password required.

Why doesn’t BrushUpQuiz ask for my email?

BrushUpQuiz is designed to be simple and privacy-first. We use anonymous device-scoped accounts, so we don’t need your email. See our Privacy Policy for details.

I switched phones and lost my quizzes / history. Is there a way to restore them?

Anonymous accounts are stored on the device you signed up on. Reinstalling the app or switching devices creates a fresh account. This trade-off is what lets us keep sign-in email-free. There is currently no cross-device restore.

For instructors

How do I create a quiz?

From the Instructor home screen, tap Create Quiz (to write it yourself) or Generate with AI (to draft one from a topic). Add the question, at least two answer options, mark the correct one, and tap Save.

How do students join?

When you publish a quiz, BrushUpQuiz shows a 6-character join code and a QR code. Students can either enter the code in the Join Quiz screen or scan the QR from their camera.

Can I run the same quiz multiple times?

Yes. From a closed quiz’s screen, tap Run Again — this duplicates the quiz and immediately publishes it with a fresh join code and timer.

Where do I see who answered?

Tap a closed quiz → View Results. You’ll see a breakdown of correct/incorrect responses and each student’s nickname alongside the option they picked.

Why do some responses show “Anonymous student”?

Older responses submitted before the anonymous-auth switch don’t have a stored nickname. New responses will show correctly.

For students

How do I join a quiz?

From the Student home screen, tap Enter Join Code and type the 6-character code your instructor shared. Or tap Scan QR Code and point your camera at the code.

I get “Quiz is closed” — what does that mean?

The instructor has ended the quiz or the time limit ran out. You can no longer submit an answer, but you can still see it in your My Participation list.

Where do I see quizzes I’ve answered?

On the Student home screen, tap My Participation. This shows every quiz you’ve submitted an answer to.

The camera doesn’t work when I try to scan a QR code.

Open your iPhone’s Settings → BrushUpQuiz → toggle Camera on. Camera access is used only for scanning join-code QR codes; no photos are stored or shared.

Common problems

“Something went wrong signing you in.”

Usually a network issue. Check your Wi-Fi or cellular connection and try again. If it persists, force-quit the app and reopen it.

“You appear to be offline.”

BrushUpQuiz needs an internet connection to run and answer quizzes. Reconnect to Wi-Fi or cellular.

The app is stuck or unresponsive.

Force-quit the app (swipe up from the bottom of the screen and swipe BrushUpQuiz away), then reopen it. If it happens repeatedly, delete the app and reinstall.

The AI Generator says “Something went wrong.”

The AI service occasionally has hiccups. Wait a minute and try again. If it keeps failing, email us.
